We have a lot
to report since our last article appeared in the summer issue of
THE DROP. Armed Forces Day May 17th 08 at the USS Kidd Memorial
in Baton Rouge, LA. We participated again this year having Chap
XXX President Willie Stevens as Master of Ceremonies and the
Distinguished Guest and Keynote Speaker was Mr. Lane Carson,
Secretary of La Dept of Veterans Affairs. The St Alphonsus
Children’s Choir performed and was well received. Members
present were; VW Breaux, Fred Dent, Earl LeBlanc, Jim McCurry
and Willie Stevens.
We had a meeting on Saturday July 26th at Cris Mandry’s
Boathouse in the West end Marina, New Orleans, LA. The food was
catered by CPT Ron Catalano again and was excellent as usual.
The guest speaker was FBI Agent Ira Jones whose power point
presentation on anti terrorism showed how these methods are used
to protect our country. He also spoke on terrorist bomb
threats/incidents and how FBI procedures are used to handle
them, detection, disarming and elimination. In attendance were
28 members and spouses, 5 guest plus our guest speaker and his
wife. Jim & Mitzi, Jack & Janet, Russ & Susan, Steve & Beth,
Earl, Jim & Kathy, Bob & Judi, Ron, John P. Ralph & Janet,
Lester, Richard & Linda, Tony & Sandy, Willie & Vita, Lloyd &
son Jimmy, Jack V., Bill VW and Owen. = Shelia Barham, Stephen &
Setsuko Twining = Ira & Angela.
On Saturday October 25th we had our meeting at a new
place, FRESH BISTRO in Gonzales, LA. The special menu had three
different selections; this allowed everyone to make their own
choice. Chap XXX President Willie Stevens spoke on the status of
our Mardi Gras project for next year – 2009. This project is to
bring in several Combat Veterans from the Mid-East conflicts to
ride in a Parade on Mardi Gras Day. The Chapter has done this
every since 2002. Willie and Jim Anthony have submitted
applications for grants from several businesses in Baton Rouge
and New Orleans, also the usual fund raising efforts will begin
shortly. Bob Moreau reported on the Chapter XXX Commendation
Awards being given to the various organizations and individuals
who donated to the 2008 Mardi Gras project. Two awards were
presented to members at the meeting and the others will be
presented or mailed in the near future. The Awards are very
attractive, they

Excellent work.
A few “social” proposals were presented for the members
to consider, a Branson, MO Trip, a Western Caribbean Cruise and
a Dinner & Dance over the coming holidays. Members present were;
