Chapter
members attended the “DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY: WHEN BASEBALL WENT
TO WAR” 9 -11 November 2007 at The National World War 2 Museum
(formerly the D-Day Museum) in New Orleans. The program was
about all the Professional Base Ball Players of the 1940s most
of whom volunteered for the various Armed Forces for service in
World War II. Most notable was the great Ted Williams, others on
the program were; Bob Feller, John Pesky, Morrie Martin, Jerry
Coleman and Lou Brissie. The keynote speaker at the banquet was
Tommy Lasorda. Taylor Energy Co sponsored twenty of our members
for this event.
On December 1st, 07 members Jim Anthony, Bob Moreau and Lloyd
Stout and their spouses attended the Mardi Gras Krewe of Argus’s
Coronation Ball which began the events leading up to Chp XXX’s
program of HELP HOST A HERO FOR MARDI GRAS 2008, where we have
several combat veterans ride in the
Mardi Gras Day Parade.
The annual Taylor Energy Christmas Party was held on
December 6th 2007 where each guest brings an unwrapped Child’s
Christmas Toy for the local TOYS FOR TOTS program giving them to
underprivileged children. Chapter members present were, Steve &
Beth Grimm, Tony & Sandy Riddle, Jim & Mitzi Anthony, Bob & Judi
Moreau and Owen Wall with his granddaughter Madeline.
Jim & Mitzi once again hosted our New Year’s Eve Party
at their lovely home. This year we were honored to have a
distinguished guest, MG Jack Singlaub, his wife Joan with her
brother Jim & wife Brenda Lafferty. The members really enjoyed
talking with Gen Singlaub and he was equally pleased to be
conversing with them all. He was also delighted when Jim
showed-off his (restored) De Lorean automobile. For midnight
there was plenty champagne and fireworks that everyone enjoyed.
Our quarterly meeting was held on Saturday January the
26th 2008 at the Cypress Room of Frank’s Restaurant in
Prairieville, LA. The meeting began at 1100 hrs with the Pledge
of Allegiance, the benediction and a moment of silence for our
fallen brothers, to include Chapter member Albert Maryman. A
delicious buffet was served with many people going back for
seconds. The Guest Speaker was our newest member Brandon Haynie
who returned home last August after commanding a helicopter
gunship unit in the mid-east. Brandon presented a power-point
display and videos of combat footage from the ships in his unit.
It was really engrossing and interesting. The usual business
matters were discussed then the installation of new officers was
held. Jim McCurry, Chairman of The Election Committee gave the
results of the election and swore in the new officers; Pres.
Willie Stevens, V-P. Fred Dent Jr., Sect. Jim Anthony and Treas.
Bob Moreau. In attendance were twenty members, twelve spouses
and seven guests that included Mack McClain, Earl LeBlanc, John
& Angelique Hurth, Chase & Brittany Johnson, and her father
David Irvin.
