We had several events this quarter. On February 16th,
2010 was our annual HELP HOST A HERO FOR MARDI GRAS 2010 Parade with the
Krewe of Argus in Metairie, LA. Our HONOREES are combat veterans mostly
from the current mid-east conflicts. They have the experience of a
lifetime, being recognized and cheered by the parade crowd of about one
million people all along the five-mile route This year were Twenty
Honorees = USA RECRUITING BN; SSGs Newsome, Simoneaux & Stuckey, SGT
Allen, also two spouses Jami & Staci. LOUISIANA NATIONALGUARD; MAJ
Baillie, SFC Sepulvado, SPCs Pollard, Vappie, Verbano L, & Verbano S.
WOUNDED WARRIORS; Alan Burghard, Margaux Vair & Matthew Williams. USN
SEALS; Bryan & Jason, SOA President Clete “Babysan” Sinyard & wife
Deborah. CHP XXX; Henry, Jennifer, Lloyd w/granddaughter Brianna, Willie
& Vita and Bob. OUR SPECIAL HONOREE; USA SGM (RET) Jon Cavaiani CMOH who
returned for another year. The Chapter solicits donations all year long
(from Corporations, Small Businesses, Patriotic Organizations and
individuals) to finance the cost (only) for the HONOREES Parade fees &
“Throws” as well as some transportation, lodging and meals. (see photos)
On March 4th the OUTBACK STEAK HOUSE kicked off their “THANKS
FOR GIVING” to salute military veterans, continuing their twenty year
support for our armed forces. The restaurant in Metairie, LA was
“packed” with veterans from all branches. The food was delicious and it
just “kept on coming”…it was a really great luncheon. ( see photo and

A special get-together was held on April 10th for some of us
to meet our newest member, Myke Hawke and his lovely wife Ruth England.
Myke was in the Baton Rouge area filming a reality show for the
Discovery Channel (as yet untitled) due out in June. Those present
enjoyed a great dinner at Chilli’s and got to know each other… Jim &
Mitzi, Henry, Jennifer, Russ & Susan, Tony & Sandy, Willie & Vita and
Lloyd & Luz-stella. ( see photo)
April 17th was member Mike Johnson’s annual TAX PARTY in
Baton Rouge, a Crawfish Boil for all his accounting & tax service
clients and his military buddies. To those of you who don’t
Know…Crawfish are a local delicacy – boiled with onions, corn, potatoes
and special seasoning is a local way for a huge outdoor party. ( see the
photo for members present) spouses present were Ginny, Angelique, Vergie,
Judi, Lorraine and Geneva, (hope I didn’t miss anyone).
Our Quarterly meeting was on April 24th at the Southeast
Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, LA. We had a rather small
turnout but everyone present had a great time and a good lunch. There
was a short business meeting followed by our guest speaker, LTC Mark
Kerry of the LA NG who gave a very interesting and insightful talk about
his deployment in Iraq. He published a book on his experiences there,
“TIGERS OF THE TIGRIS, An American Advisors Journey Through Culture,
Religion and Intrigue in Building the Iraqi Army.” Those in attendance
were; Jim & Mitzi, Jack & Janet, Henry, Fred, Ed, Tony L, Jim Mc, Bob,
Tony R, Lloyd and Gerald & Charlotte along with guest Deke Ratcliff.
