Mardi Gras 2011
A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO OUR MOST ENDEARING SUPPORTERS
We received support this year from a surprising and different
source. It is worthy of recognition for the intent, effort and devotion
by the students and teachers of:
ELLA DOLHONDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
219 Severn Ave, Metairie, LA 70001
They donated a large collection of beads for the Honorees (details are
below). But it’s the “Heart” behind their effort that was wonderful to
witness. We were proud of their recognition and appreciation for the
brave young men and women who are defending our freedom.
In particular there are two Fourth Grade Students whose
individual efforts are deserving of special recognition.
ENGLEBERT DELGADO gave a donation of some One Dollar Bills.
It wasn’t the amount that matters, it’s intent to help As Much As He
Could to show his own gratitude.
JOLI LINDSAY wrote a short letter to the Veterans (it’s shown
below). Here is what she had to say:
“Dear troops my stepdad was in the army his name is
Kris Shellenberger. he was the Sargent. but I gave you this to have a
good mardi gras. By the way I’m glad you’re here. If we didn’t have you
nobody could protect us. Thank you very much troops. You go threw
battles of war for us. I’m proud of you and what you do. I’m age 8.”
The items collected and donated by the school were; 16 bags
of beads, 2 large boxes of beads, 4 bags of stuffed animals and a case
of potato chips.
There were two of the school’s Teachers involved in
coordinating the students efforts; Peggy Villemarette and Deborah Reis
who also are deserving of recognition.
ON BEHALF OF THE VETERAN HONOREES WHO RODE IN THE PARADE, AND
OF THE MEMBERS OF CHAPTER XXX SFA, WE HEREBY EXPRESS OUR SINCERE
APPRECIATION FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION. IN WITNESS THEREOF WE EXTEND TO YOU
A HEARTY
" A I R B O R N E ! "
(Note of clarification = Among the Military
Parachutists the term AIRBONE is the equivalent of “AtABoy” or “Job Well
Done”)
