Chapter XXX Service Projects
Chapter XXX is committed to providing services in support of our
Association and Chapter Missions. Listed below are some of our recent
activities in support of Patriotism, Veterans' Remembrance, and Education.
2002 -
Tribute Survivors Fund:
Provided seed money for the national
Special Forces Association's Tribute Fund, for the survivors (a "widows
and orphans") of Special Forces soldiers who are lost on active duty. The
idea of a national fund was initiated by Past President Godfrey Boudreaux.
The total donations for 2002 and 2003 exceeded $500.
2002 - Mardi Gras Honorees:
Arranged for and raised funds to honor 7 active duty Special Forces
soldiers at Mardi Gras. The soldiers, who were veterans of Operation
Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, rode in Argus Parade on Mardi Gras Day.
Four of the seven received Purple Hearts for wounds received in action
against the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
2002 - Veterans Home:
Attended a Louisiana Veteran's hearing in
Baton Rouge to support the construction of a Veterans home in LaPlace,
Louisiana. This centrally located facility will serve all the Veterans in
southeast Louisiana. The home is on the approved facilities list for the
VA, (ranked 56th nationally of all veteran's facilities).
2002 - Armed Forces Day:
Planned and implemented an Armed Forces
Day Walk Across Louisiana in cooperation with Chapter LXXXI Special Forces
Association. The Walk ended with the meeting of teams coming from the east
and west in Baton Rouge. A memorial service was held for all Veterans at
the USS Kidd.
2002 - Wind Talkers:
Raised funds and brought three World War II US Marine Navajo Code Talkers
to be honored at the Armed Forces Day activities across the State. Their
visit to Louisiana incorporated the development of an educational program
for public schools which has been periodically featured on the public
access cable channel in the New Orleans area.
